Square D was founded in Detroit in 1902, incorporated as McBride Manufacturing in 1903, and took the Square D name in 1917.
Schneider Electric acquired Square D in 1991. Square D remains Schneider's flagship brand in North America.
Square D announced its Power-Cast cast coil transformer in 1999, rated 500 to 10,000 kVA through 34.5 kV, and it was the first cast coil transformer to earn a UL listing.
Reading the plate: General purpose units carry catalog numbers such as EE75T3H or EXN45T3H, where the letters after the kVA give phase, voltage code and insulation class. Older dry-types often show the Sorgel name with Square D.
