How to read a Square D heavy duty safety switch catalog number.
H is heavy duty fusible and HU is heavy duty non-fusible. The next digit is poles (2, 3, 4 or 6). The next is voltage (2 = 240 Vac, 6 = 600 Vac). The last digit is amps (1 = 30, 2 = 60, 3 = 100, 4 = 200, 5 = 400, 6 = 600, 7 = 800, 8 = 1200 A). N adds a factory neutral. Enclosure suffix: none = Type 1, R = 3R, RB = 3R with bolt-on hub provision, A = 12K, AWK = 12 without knockouts, DS = 4/4X/5 304 stainless, SS = 4/4X/5 316 stainless, DF or DX = 4X fiberglass.
Not sure? Type it into the catalog lookup or text a photo of the label.
- Stainless (DS or SS) and NEMA 12 enclosures are worth more than painted Type 1 or 3R of the same rating.
- Higher amp ratings (400 to 1200 A) carry far more copper and component value than 30 and 60 A switches.
- New in the box with the label intact brings the most, since many H catalog numbers are now discontinued.
- Missing handles, broken interlocks or burned blades lower value.
- We do not publish prices. Metal, demand, and condition move them. You get a written number for your unit.
Square D reads its heavy duty catalog numbers as type, poles, voltage, amps, then neutral and enclosure suffixes, so H363 is 3 pole, 600 V, 100 A. Schneider replaced many H and HU numbers with VisiPacT units that add a V prefix and a viewing window, for example H363 to VH363 and HU361 to VHU361. Neutrals are field installable on most heavy duty switches, so a missing N in the number does not always mean no neutral is fitted.
Three photos price most Square D heavy duty safety switch offers.
The label
The catalog number, straight on and in focus. For a pallet, one label per model plus a count.
The unit
Front, sides, and anything damaged. Doors open if it has them.
The lot
The whole pallet or shelf. New in box: the box labels.
The label is inside the door. The catalog number on it encodes duty, poles, voltage, amps, fusible or not, and the enclosure. That one photo is usually all we need.

Selling a Square D heavy duty safety switch: what people ask.
Yes. We buy H and HU switches new in the box, used or failed.
Yes. DS and SS suffix stainless switches are worth listing separately.
Tell us if fuses are installed and their class and rating. We buy the switch either way.
Both. New surplus, used, untested, and failed all sell. Condition sets the number, not whether we buy.
