What we pay for and why

Value on low voltage switchgear comes down to the brand and series, the ratings on the nameplate, what is still installed inside, and condition. New surplus is worth the most. Failed units are worth their parts and metal.

What drives the number

The breakers

Masterpact, Magnum DS, WL, and the GE and ABB air breakers drive most of the number. Each has its own page on this site.

Trip units

Electronic trip units with metering and communications are worth more than basic LSI units. Photograph the trip unit face.

Lineup age and series

Current-production lineups resell as lineups. Discontinued series sell to sites keeping old gear running, which is a real market.

Bus and enclosure

Clean bus, intact barriers, and doors with working latches keep a lineup sellable whole.

Reading the nameplate

The lineup nameplate is usually on the front of the main section. Each breaker has its own nameplate on the front escutcheon. One breaker plate per frame size plus the lineup plate is enough to price it.

Freight and rigging

Sections ship separately with the breakers removed and palletized. Sections commonly run 1,000 to 3,000 pounds each. We plan the rigging and the truck.
