How to read a Square D NF panelboard catalog number.
Merchandised NF interiors read NF4 (three phase 4 wire), then the circuit count, then L for main lugs, then the mains code (1 = 125 A, 2 = 250 A, 4 = 400 A, 6 = 600 A), then C if the bus is copper. Note the NF mains codes differ from NQ (NF 1 = 125 A, NQ 1 = 100 A).

Square D directs 3 phase 3 wire delta systems above 240 Vac to I-Line panelboards rather than NF. NF branch breakers are E-frame bolt-on devices, and the maximum allowable branch breaker pair combination is 170 A. Interiors ship with a solid neutral and an aluminum ground bar kit and are field convertible to top feed.
