About Square D

Square D has been part of Schneider Electric since 1991, and the labels show it: older units say Square D, newer ones say Square D by Schneider Electric, and the newest air circuit breakers carry only the Schneider name. Same families, same catalog logic.

It is the most common breaker brand we see by a wide margin, because Square D owns two of the biggest residential lines (QO and Homeline) and the I-Line panelboards that sit in a large share of American commercial buildings.

Read the catalog number

Square D molded case catalog numbers read series, then poles, then a voltage digit, then amps. The voltage digit is 2 for 240V, 4 for 480V, and 6 for 600V. EDB34060 is an E-frame, 3-pole, 480V, 60A. HJA36150 is an H-frame, 3-pole, 600V, 150A. Residential QO and Homeline skip the voltage digit: QO120 is 1-pole, 20A.

On PowerPact frames the second letter is the interrupting class, climbing D, G, J, L, R. On the older F, K, and L frames it climbs A, H, C. Higher class units can replace lower ones in the same frame; the reverse is an engineering call.

Square D prints the catalog number on the face label. On PowerPact and Micrologic units, add a photo of the trip unit.
