Cooper Industries bought McGraw-Edison in 1985 and RTE Corporation, a Wisconsin maker of distribution equipment founded in 1947 as Rural Transformer and Equipment, in 1988. Those businesses formed Cooper Power Systems, based in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Cooper closed its Lumberton, Mississippi plant and moved single-phase padmount production to other plants by 2011.
Eaton completed its purchase of Cooper Industries on November 30, 2012. The line ran for several years as Eaton's Cooper Power Systems, and the Waukesha plants still build three-phase transformers, substation transformers and voltage regulators.
