The nameplate is on the head casting under the sleet hood and shows the type, serial number and coil rating. Photograph the nameplate, the operations counter, and the yellow operating and non-reclosing handles. Note whether the bushings are standard or extra-creepage.

How to read a Cooper Kyle hydraulic recloser catalog number.
Catalog 280-10 builds E, H and L group catalog numbers in order: basic letters (KH for H group, KE for E group, KL for L group), a type digit (omitted for E and L, 1 for H, 4 for 4H or 4E, V4 for V4H, V4E or V4L, 6 for 6H, V6 for V6H), the series coil rating in amps, the delayed time-current curve letter (A if all operations are fast), then the number of fast operations and the number of delayed operations (four total at most). The worked example below is printed in the catalog; the others are built from the same published scheme.
Not sure? Type it into the catalog lookup or text a photo of the label.
- Vacuum-interrupting versions (V4H, V4L, V4E, V6H) need less maintenance than oil-interrupting types.
- Larger coil ratings and the 24.9 kV E group are less common than small H-group units.
- Oil condition and counter reading tell a buyer how hard the unit has worked.
- Failed and untested units are bought for metal content.
- Units built before 1980 may contain PCBs; we sample before an offer is final.
- We do not publish prices. Metal, demand, and condition move them. You get a written number for your unit.
The letter V placed before the type (V4H, V4L, V4E, V6H) means vacuum interrupters. Every unit's rating comes from its series trip coil, so two 4H reclosers can have very different minimum trips. A hookstick lever under the sleet hood sets the non-reclosing feature for one operation to lockout during hot-line work. Eaton now lists the E, 4E, H, 4H and L types as discontinued, so remaining units are surplus and used stock. H and L group units (110 kV BIL and below) are not suited to single-phase taps of 14.4/24.9 kV systems. E group units are rated 24.9 kV and can serve single-phase taps of 20/34.5 kV systems where 150 kV BIL is adequate.

The label
The catalog number, straight on and in focus. For a pallet, one label per model plus a count.
The unit
Front, sides, and anything damaged. Doors open if it has them.
The lot
The whole pallet or shelf. New in box: the box labels.
The nameplate is on the recloser head or tank. Photograph it with the type, voltage, continuous current, and interrupting rating in frame. Photograph the control nameplate and the control face separately.
- 01Send the nameplate
Photos or a list with counts. Text, email, or the form.
- 02We read it and reply
During business hours, by whatever contact method you picked.
- 03You get a written offer
Per unit or per lot. A range if we need to sample or test, firm after. Freight is in the number.
- 04We pick up and pay
Our truck and our rigging. Wire or ACH within 3 business days of a passed inspection.
Freight: Single-phase hydraulic reclosers are light enough for a liftgate truck. Three-phase units and their frames need a forklift or crane. We plan it.
Selling a Cooper Kyle hydraulic recloser: what people ask.
Yes. We buy H, 4H, L, E and 4E reclosers of any age and condition. Units built before 1980 may contain PCBs; we sample before an offer is final.
The coil rating is in the catalog number on the nameplate. Send a photo and we will read it.
Yes. Mixed lots of H, L and E group reclosers are common for us. A count by type is enough to start.
Both. New surplus, used, untested, and failed all sell. Condition sets the number, not whether we buy.
Oil-filled units built before 1980 may contain PCBs. We sample before an offer is final and handle the paperwork. We do not give disposal guidance on the web.
