The nameplate lists manufacturer, catalog number, date of manufacture, serial number, voltage, BIL, continuous current and interrupting current. Viper-S catalog numbers begin VIP (VIP378ER-12S for 15.5 kV, VIP388ER-12S for 27 kV, VIP398ER-12S for 38 kV). Photograph the nameplate, the control cable connector, and the control.

- Viper-ST units offer single-phase tripping and lockout, which older three-phase units do not.
- Site-ready assemblies with brackets, arresters and voltage sensors are worth more complete.
- A matched SEL control and cable add value.
- Solid dielectric construction means no oil handling.
- We do not publish prices. Metal, demand, and condition move them. You get a written number for your unit.
The Viper-S uses the traditional 14-pin connector found on legacy reclosers, so G&W designed it to replace previously installed reclosers or controls without changing the cable standard. The Control Power Viper-S moves the actuator power supply into the SEL control and runs on a single 19-pin cable, which SEL does not offer a cable for, so check the connector before matching a control. Viper-ST modules can be built with IEEE 386 interface bushings for padmount use.

The label
The catalog number, straight on and in focus. For a pallet, one label per model plus a count.
The unit
Front, sides, and anything damaged. Doors open if it has them.
The lot
The whole pallet or shelf. New in box: the box labels.
The nameplate is on the recloser head or tank. Photograph it with the type, voltage, continuous current, and interrupting rating in frame. Photograph the control nameplate and the control face separately.
- 01Send the nameplate
Photos or a list with counts. Text, email, or the form.
- 02We read it and reply
During business hours, by whatever contact method you picked.
- 03You get a written offer
Per unit or per lot. A range if we need to sample or test, firm after. Freight is in the number.
- 04We pick up and pay
Our truck and our rigging. Wire or ACH within 3 business days of a passed inspection.
Freight: Single-phase hydraulic reclosers are light enough for a liftgate truck. Three-phase units and their frames need a forklift or crane. We plan it.
Selling a G&W Viper recloser: what people ask.
Yes. We buy reclosers and controls together or separately.
Yes. Overhead, substation and padmount Vipers are all in scope.
A nameplate photo with the catalog number, the connector type, and the pickup location.
Both. New surplus, used, untested, and failed all sell. Condition sets the number, not whether we buy.
Oil-filled units built before 1980 may contain PCBs. We sample before an offer is final and handle the paperwork. We do not give disposal guidance on the web.
