What it is

Photograph the nameplate on the tank with the six-digit catalog number and serial number, plus the gas pressure gauge if fitted. Also photograph the viewing windows, the overcurrent control enclosure and each bushing so we can see 200 A wells versus 600 A bushings.

Read the catalog number

How to read a S&C Vista underground distribution switchgear catalog number.

Vista catalog numbers are six digits. The first two give type and short-circuit level: 85 is Manual Vista rated 25 kA, 93 is Manual Vista rated 12.5 kA. The next three digits are the model number: total ways, then load-interrupter switch ways, then fault-interrupter ways. The last digit is maximum voltage: 2 is 15.5 kV, 3 is 29 kV, 4 is 38 kV. Letter suffixes after a dash add options such as enclosure style and finish.

932013

What drives the number
  • 25 kA units (catalog prefix 85) and 29 kV or 38 kV ratings are worth more than 15.5 kV, 12.5 kA units.
  • A tank that still holds gas and shows no leaks is worth far more than one that has lost pressure.
  • Units with motor operators, remote supervisory or source-transfer controls carry more value when the controls are complete.
  • Four-way and larger models are easier to resell than two-way units.
  • We do not publish prices. Metal, demand, and condition move them. You get a written number for your unit.
From the yard

The model number tells you the layout at a glance: a Model 431 is four ways with three load-interrupter switches and one fault interrupter. The three-position switches go Closed, Open, Grounded, and the windows let an operator confirm the open gap and ground position without touching an elbow. Fault interrupters are tripped by a programmable overcurrent control, and trip indicators show through the windows. Arc-spinner fault interrupters only appear on 15.5 kV, 12.5 kA SF6 units; everything else uses vacuum.

Photos we need

Three photos price most S&C Vista underground distribution switchgear offers.

01

The nameplate

Straight on and readable. Voltage, ratings, model, and serial in frame.

02

Inside

Doors open: bus, devices, controls, and anything burned or missing.

03

The whole unit

A wide shot plus what is around it, so we can plan the pick.

The nameplate is usually on the inside of a door or on the dead-front barrier. Shoot it straight on with the voltage class, BIL, continuous and interrupting ratings, and the model or catalog number in frame. On SF6 gear, photograph the pressure gauge too.

How selling works
  1. 01
    Send the nameplate

Photos or a list with counts. Text, email, or the form.

  2. 02
    We read it and reply

During business hours, by whatever contact method you picked.

  3. 03
    You get a written offer

Per unit or per lot. Freight is in the number.

  4. 04
    We pick up and pay

Our truck and our rigging. Wire or ACH within 3 business days of a passed inspection.

Freight: Pad-mounted switchgear runs from roughly 2,000 to well over 6,000 pounds depending on ways and insulation. Most units lift from the base with a forklift or a truck-mounted crane and ride a flatbed. We plan the rigging. You tell us what is around the pad.

FAQ
