What it is

Read the tank nameplate for type JFR, kVA, voltage, amps, BIL and serial number. Photograph the nameplate, the control panel (the MJ model is printed on it), and the polarized disconnect switch between the control and the tank. Older units may carry an Allis-Chalmers nameplate.

Read the catalog number

How to read a Siemens JFR voltage regulator catalog number.

Current Siemens Energy JFR catalog numbers read as cooling code, voltage class, then kVA. The first two digits are 10 for self-cooled or 11 for forced-air cooled. The middle group is the voltage class in kV (02.5, 07.6, 14.4 or 19.9). The last group is the kVA rating. Older nameplates may not follow this exact format.

10-02.5-167.0
Self-cooled, 2,500 V class, 167 kVA, 668 A, 60 kV BIL
10-07.6-333.0
Self-cooled, 7,620 V class, 333 kVA, 438 A, 95 kV BIL
11-07.6-889.0
Forced-air cooled, 7,620 V class, 889 kVA, 1,167 A, 95 kV BIL
10-14.4-288.0
Self-cooled, 14,400 V class, 288 kVA, 200 A, 150 kV BIL
10-19.9-333.0
Self-cooled, 19,920 V class, 333 kVA, 167 A, 150 kV BIL

What drives the number
  • kVA and voltage class are the main value drivers.
  • Units with an MJ-4A or later control panel are worth more than units with MJ-2 or MJ-3 series panels.
  • Complete units with control, control cable and polarized disconnect switch are worth more than bare tanks.
  • Failed units are bought for core and coil content.
  • Units built before 1980 may contain PCBs; we sample before an offer is final.
  • We do not publish prices. Metal, demand, and condition move them. You get a written number for your unit.
From the yard

Siemens regulators use a polarized disconnect switch (PDS) between the tank and the control panel. Pulling it removes control voltage and automatically shorts the current transformer, so a JFR control can be swapped with the regulator energized. Siemens states its current panels are directly interchangeable with all JFR regulators built since 1958. A cover-mounted terminal block lets crews change tap connections without going under oil. Siemens credits its partner Allis-Chalmers with pioneering step voltage regulators in the 1930s, and Allis-Chalmers JFR units still turn up in surplus lots.

Photos we need

Three photos price most Siemens JFR voltage regulator offers.

01

The nameplate

Straight on and readable. Voltage, ratings, model, and serial in frame.

02

Inside

Doors open: bus, devices, controls, and anything burned or missing.

03

The whole unit

A wide shot plus what is around it, so we can plan the pick.

The nameplate is on the tank wall. Photograph it straight on with the voltage, kVA, load current, and serial in frame, then photograph the control nameplate and display.

How selling works
  1. 01
    Send the nameplate

Photos or a list with counts. Text, email, or the form.

  2. 02
    We read it and reply

During business hours, by whatever contact method you picked.

  3. 03
    You get a written offer

Per unit or per lot. A range if we need to sample or test, firm after. Freight is in the number.

  4. 04
    We pick up and pay

Our truck and our rigging. Wire or ACH within 3 business days of a passed inspection.

Freight: Single-phase regulators commonly run from roughly 1,000 to over 4,000 pounds depending on rating. They ride flatbeds and lift from the lifting lugs. We plan it.
