The tank nameplate shows the type (VR-1), kVA, voltage, current and serial number; Prolec GE manuals ask for the serial number when ordering parts. Photograph the nameplate, the load-bonus position indicator on the cover, and the control panel model.

- kVA and voltage class drive value.
- Units with a GE-2011 series control and control cable intact are worth more than bare tanks.
- Late Prolec GE units with reverse power flow measurement are newer designs.
- Failed units are bought for core and coil content.
- Units built before 1980 may contain PCBs; we sample before an offer is final.
- We do not publish prices. Metal, demand, and condition move them. You get a written number for your unit.
Prolec GE traces the VR-1 to GE's earlier ML-4 design from Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The VR-1 tap switch comes in four sizes (LC, MC, HC and HV), and the manual's expected-life table ties each kVA and voltage rating to one of them, which is why two regulators with the same kVA can have different switches. Current Prolec GE units use a Flex-Connect control cabinet that accepts GE 2011C and E, SEL-2431, Beckwith M6200A and Cooper CL-7 controls. The Shreveport plant that builds them now operates as Prolec GE.
Three photos price most GE VR-1 voltage regulator offers.
The nameplate
Straight on and readable. Voltage, ratings, model, and serial in frame.
Inside
Doors open: bus, devices, controls, and anything burned or missing.
The whole unit
A wide shot plus what is around it, so we can plan the pick.
The nameplate is on the tank wall. Photograph it straight on with the voltage, kVA, load current, and serial in frame, then photograph the control nameplate and display.
- 01Send the nameplate
Photos or a list with counts. Text, email, or the form.
- 02We read it and reply
During business hours, by whatever contact method you picked.
- 03You get a written offer
Per unit or per lot. A range if we need to sample or test, firm after. Freight is in the number.
- 04We pick up and pay
Our truck and our rigging. Wire or ACH within 3 business days of a passed inspection.
Freight: Single-phase regulators commonly run from roughly 1,000 to over 4,000 pounds depending on rating. They ride flatbeds and lift from the lifting lugs. We plan it.
Selling a GE VR-1 voltage regulator: what people ask.
Yes. Prolec GE builds the VR-1 at the former GE plant in Shreveport. We buy GE and Prolec GE branded units.
Yes. Retrofitted SEL, Beckwith, Siemens or Cooper controls are fine. Tell us what is installed.
Yes. Loose GE 2011 series controls are bought working or not.
Both. New surplus, used, untested, and failed all sell. Condition sets the number, not whether we buy.
Oil-filled units built before 1980 may contain PCBs. We sample before an offer is final and handle the paperwork. We do not give disposal guidance on the web.
