About Eaton

Eaton bought Cutler-Hammer in 1978 and Westinghouse's distribution and control business in 1994. That is why the same breaker can turn up with any of three names on it. An HFD3100 is an HFD3100 whether the label says Westinghouse, Cutler-Hammer, or Eaton.

Series C frames (EHD, FD, HFD, KD and friends) are some of the most-traded industrial breakers in the country. Power Defense is the newer line, and most of what we see of it is still in the box.

Read the catalog number

Eaton molded case catalog numbers usually read series, then poles, then amps, with no voltage digit. EHD3100 is 3-pole, 100A. GHB2020 is 2-pole, 20A. Power Defense packs more in: PDG33G0400 is frame 3, 3-pole, interrupting class G, 400A, followed by trip unit and terminal codes.

On Series C F-frames the interrupting class climbs EHD, FDB, FD, HFD, FDC. Larger frames add an H prefix for high interrupting (HKD, HLD, HMDL).

Eaton puts the catalog number on the face label. A suffix L (EHD3100L) means line and load terminals are included, so photograph the ends.
